You can see the roof from the highway before you see anything else. That giant red triangular structure on Yas Island with the prancing horse emblem stamped across it at 65 metres wide – it’s not subtle and it’s not trying to be. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi opened in November 2010 as the world’s first Ferrari-branded theme park and it spent the next 15 years housing the world’s fastest roller coaster inside it. 100,000 square metres of indoor space, more than 20 attractions, the full Ferrari brand experience from F1 simulators to luxury car exhibitions to a shop that will comfortably accept your entire travel budget. September 2023 visit, one full day, everything covered. Here’s what’s worth your time and what you can skip.

One important note for anyone booking now: Formula Rossa is no longer the world’s fastest roller coaster. Falcon’s Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya in Saudi Arabia took the title on December 31, 2025. Formula Rossa was also unexpectedly closed for a period in 2024. During the September 2023 visit it was running as the #1 ranked attraction and the world record holder – that was the context. It’s still an extraordinary ride and the rest of the park delivers regardless of the record status. Just don’t plan a trip specifically to ride “the world’s fastest” without checking the current operational status first.

The basics – what Ferrari World actually is

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi sits on Yas Island directly opposite the hairpin grandstand of Yas Marina Circuit, where the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix is held each season. The building itself is one of the more dramatic structures you’ll encounter at a theme park – the triangular roof is modeled on the double curves of a Ferrari GT car, rises to 48 metres at its highest point, measures 2,200 metres in circumference, and covers a total surface area of 200,000 square metres. The interior general admission area covers 100,000 square metres. It is, objectively, an enormous building.

Everything inside is Ferrari-themed with a specificity that goes well beyond putting a logo on things. The attraction design is by Jack Rouse Associates and the theming runs through the architecture, the ride vehicles, the restaurant concepts, the merchandise, and the ambient design details throughout. If you have even a passing interest in Ferrari as a brand, the Maranello zone in particular – which recreates the Italian town and the factory environment – is genuinely interesting rather than just decorative.

  • ๐ŸŽ๏ธ World’s first Ferrari-branded theme park, opened November 4, 2010
  • ๐Ÿ“ 100,000 sqm indoor space – fully air-conditioned, which in Abu Dhabi in September is not a footnote
  • ๐ŸŽข 20+ attractions including four major roller coasters
  • ๐ŸŽซ 345 AED per adult / 265 AED per child (September 2023 pricing)
  • ๐Ÿ“ Yas Island, Abu Dhabi – 12 minutes from Abu Dhabi Airport, about 75 minutes from Dubai
  • ๐ŸšŒ Shuttle bus connection to Yas Mall – useful for the end of the day

Ticket pricing and what to know before you go

At the September 2023 visit, a standard adult day ticket was 345 AED (approximately $94 USD) and children paid 265 AED (approximately $72 USD). These are the general admission prices that include all standard attractions.

A few things worth knowing before you arrive:

  • Book online in advance – the official booking page at ferrariworldabudhabi.com sometimes offers online discounts and avoids queues at the entrance
  • September is peak heat in Abu Dhabi – 40ยฐC+ outside. The fully indoor nature of the park is the relevant response to this. This is genuinely one of the better theme parks to visit in summer precisely because you never have to be outside
  • Arrive early – Formula Rossa, Flying Aces, and Turbo Track queue times build through the morning. The park opens at 11am on most days; being there at opening gives you the shortest queues on the main attractions
  • Check Formula Rossa operational status before planning your visit specifically around it – the ride has had extended closure periods
  • Fast Track passes are available for an additional fee and are worth considering for Formula Rossa and Flying Aces specifically if you’re visiting on a busy day
  • Height restrictions apply on the major coasters – Formula Rossa requires 1.4m minimum, Flying Aces requires 1.4m minimum, Turbo Track requires 1.3m minimum

The rides – ranked by what actually matters

๐ŸŽ๏ธ 1. Formula Rossa – the world speed record holder (at time of visit)

Zero to 240 km/h (149 mph) in 4.9 seconds. That is the headline number and it is not exaggerated. The hydraulic launch system – Intamin Accelerator technology, the same family of systems used in F1 pit equipment – pulls 4.8G during the launch sequence. The ride attendants hand you goggles before you board, which seems like a theme park affectation until you’re on the outdoor section at speed and understand that Abu Dhabi’s airborne sand at 240 km/h would do serious things to your eyes. The goggles are non-negotiable.

The launch is an experience unlike any other roller coaster. The problem – and theme park enthusiasts will tell you this – is that after the launch the ride immediately hits brakes on the first hill and what follows is less spectacular than the 4.9 seconds before it. The total ride duration is about 1 minute 32 seconds and a significant portion of that is the deceleration sequence. It doesn’t matter. The launch alone justifies the queue.

Since December 31, 2025, Falcon’s Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya in Saudi Arabia holds the world speed record at 251 km/h. Formula Rossa is now the world’s second fastest roller coaster. It is still faster than everything else most people will ever ride in their lives.

โœˆ๏ธ 2. Flying Aces

The most technically impressive coaster in the park and the one that holds up best on repeated rides. The world’s highest looping roller coaster, reaching 63 metres with the loop at a 52-degree incline, top speed 120 km/h. The theming is built around the story of Francesco Baracca – the Italian World War I flying ace whose prancing horse emblem was the origin of Ferrari’s logo. The theming is actually good, the pre-ride show area is well-executed, and the ride itself is a full-package coaster that Formula Rossa isn’t. Most serious coaster enthusiasts rate it above Formula Rossa as an overall ride experience. The launch is ranked #2 in popularity at the park and the queue times reflect this.

๐Ÿš€ 3. Turbo Track

The third major coaster and a different experience from the other two. This one goes outside through the roof of the building, launching riders vertically upward with a 360-degree roll, and returns through the roof back inside. The external portion gives you a brief but spectacular view over Yas Island before the return. It’s shorter and less intense than Flying Aces but the visual of the track punching through the building’s famous red roof – from inside and from the outside as you’re on it – is genuinely memorable. Minimum height 1.3m.

๐Ÿ 4. Fiorano GT Challenge

A racing dueling coaster – two parallel tracks that compete side by side around a circuit inspired by the real Fiorano test track at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters. Less intense than the three above but more fun in a different way – the competitive element between the two trains and the Fiorano theming make it a satisfying mid-level coaster. Good for shorter waits when the main three have long queues.

๐ŸŽฎ 5. The simulators and experiences

Scuderia Ferrari Champions is a motion simulator putting you inside a Scuderia Ferrari F1 car – a proper multi-screen experience with physical movement that’s one of the better simulator rides in any theme park. Driving with Champions lets you sit in a Ferrari and experience a semi-simulated drive alongside an F1 champion. Karting Academy is actual kart driving on a circuit inside the park. Speed of Magic is a 4D cinema experience. These fill the gaps between coaster rides effectively and are generally shorter queues.

๐Ÿ‘ถ 6. Family and junior rides

Formula Rossa Junior is a scaled-down version of the main coaster designed for younger guests. Junior GP lets kids drive their own miniature F1 cars. Turbo Tower is a drop tower with Ferrari theming. Benno’s Great Race and other Scuderia-themed rides are aimed at younger children. The park covers families with kids who can’t meet the height requirements on the main attractions without leaving them bored – the junior zone is substantial and well-themed.

Maranello – the zone worth slowing down for

The Maranello section of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is the part that rewards guests who aren’t purely there for the coasters. It recreates the Italian town and the environment around Ferrari’s actual factory and museum in Maranello, Emilia-Romagna. The attention to architectural detail – the piazza, the building facades, the ambient audio – is the kind of themed environment that theme park designers spend significant budgets on and that casual visitors often walk through without registering fully.

Inside Maranello you’ll find Ferrari car exhibitions displaying actual production and historic models, a dedicated Ferrari Store that is far more comprehensive than anything you’d find in a Ferrari dealership or airport, and the Viaggio in Italia experience which takes you through a visual journey of Italian landscapes and Ferrari’s place within them.

The Ferrari Store

This deserves its own section because it’s genuinely one of the more impressive brand retail operations anywhere. The Ferrari Store inside Ferrari World is the largest dedicated Ferrari retail space in the Middle East and stocks everything from scale models and official merchandise through to clothing, accessories, and the kind of items that only exist in a theme park context. If you’re buying Ferrari branded goods anywhere in the region, this is where the selection is deepest and where the official authenticity is guaranteed. Budget accordingly. The store occupies a significant portion of the park’s retail footprint and it’s easy to spend an unreasonable amount of time and money in it.

Italy Zone and dining

The Italy Zone recreates different regions of Italy within the park’s architecture – not at Universal Studios levels of detail but at a level that makes the dining and retail area feel like a destination rather than a food court. Bell Italia is the main Italian restaurant and it’s given proper time across the day – the food is genuine Italian cooking, not theme park facsimile pasta. The combination of the setting and the food quality makes this one of the better in-park dining experiences at any theme park in the UAE.

Beyond Bell Italia there are multiple snack shops, a cafรฉ, and various F&B kiosks distributed through the park. The overall dining standard is noticeably above what most theme parks deliver and the Italian food focus gives it coherence that parks with generic food court lineups don’t have.

Getting to Ferrari World and getting around

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is on Yas Island, approximately 12 minutes by road from Abu Dhabi International Airport and about 75 minutes from Dubai. Getting there:

  • From Dubai: taxi or Uber on the E11 highway, approximately 75 minutes. Car rental is an easy option given the distance
  • From Abu Dhabi city: taxi or Uber, 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. The Yas Express bus also connects from the city
  • From Abu Dhabi Airport: taxi about 20 minutes, very straightforward
  • Shuttle bus to Yas Mall: a free or low-cost shuttle connects Ferrari World to Yas Mall at the end of the day – useful for extending the day with dinner or shopping, and Yas Mall is one of the larger malls in Abu Dhabi with a full dining floor

On-site paid parking is available and substantial. The park is fully enclosed so once you’re inside there’s no need for transport until departure.

Best time to visit: November through March is the best weather window for Abu Dhabi and the outdoor sections of the park (Turbo Track exits through the roof, Formula Rossa has outdoor track sections). September – as this visit demonstrates – is fully viable given the indoor nature of the park but Abu Dhabi in September averages 38-42ยฐC outside. The 15-minute walk from the car park is the outdoor exposure you’re dealing with. December through February has the most pleasant climate for the full Yas Island day – Ferrari World plus the nearby Yas Waterworld and Warner Bros. World if you’re making a multi-park trip.

Is it worth it?

At 345 AED per adult it’s a meaningful day out rather than a casual drop-in, and the honest answer is: yes, with conditions. If you’re primarily there for Formula Rossa, verify it’s running before you go. If you have kids, the park delivers across age ranges better than most theme parks and the junior zone is genuinely good. If you’re a car person with Ferrari interest specifically, the Maranello zone, the car exhibitions, and the Ferrari Store add a layer that pure thrill-seekers don’t get from the same visit.

The fully air-conditioned indoor environment makes this uniquely viable for a UAE summer day when every other outdoor attraction becomes a physical ordeal. The food is better than it should be for a theme park. The coasters – Formula Rossa and Flying Aces especially – are world-class. It’s a full day.
